As initial steps for Intellectual Property (IP) application, the DA-Fisheries Biotechnology Center, hosted by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), conducted a “Training on Intellectual Property: Fisheries Biotechnology Products Potential for Technology Transfer” on February 22-23, 2024 in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
The training aimed to equip participants to leverage intellectual property rights to their advantage and assess the generated technologies from the DA-FBC and networks.
Among the participants were representatives from the DA-Biotechnology Program Office, NFRDI staff from the Policy, Planning and Information Division, Brackishwater Fisheries Research and Development Center, and FBC.
Among the resource persons were: Director Noel Catibog of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division, DOST-PCAARRD; and Dr. Jaine C. Reyes, Professor III of the Institute for Governance and Rural Development in the College of Public Affairs and Development (IGRF-CPAf), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
Dir. Catibog presented PCAARRD’s R&D Results Utilization (RDRU) process, Technology Transfer Pathways, Philippine Technology Transfer Act, and Intellectual Property Rights Options for DA and its attached agencies.
Meanwhile, Dr. Reyes introduced the Research-Technology Assessment Utilization Process and the basics of Technology Assessment. She also facilitated a group activity assessing technologies developed in the center using the (Economic, Political, Institutional, Technical, Legal, Environmental) EPISTLE Matrix.
