
Department of Agriculture-Biotech Program Office Program Director, Dr. Paul C. Limson, together with his staff accompanied by the Center Chief of the Department of Agriculture-Fisheries Biotechnology Center (DA-FBC) Dr. Casiano H. Choresca, and his staff conducted an ocular visit at BFAR-Regional Fisheries Research and Development Center (RFRDC), Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo today, March 5, 2024.
The team was welcomed by Ms. Jenny Ann Ercilla, Aquaculturist 1 of BFAR-RFRDC and Ms. Ma. Concepcion S. Narciso, Science Research Specialist 1 of the project “Promotion of Breeding and Farming Technologies of Commercially Important Freshwater Fishes for Increased Aquaculture Production (Phase II). This project is in its second year of implementation funded by the DA-Biotech Program Office. The intervention of the DA-BPO helped the center in upgrading its equipment and machineries as highlighted by Ms. Ercilla.
Currently, the project conducts induced breeding of african catfish “hito”, grow-out culture of tilapia, and ornamental fishe culture. Fingerlings can be availed for free by those who are interested to culture the above-mentioned species upon request (walk-in and request letter to the center).
