The ceremony began with the Entrance of Colors, Invocation and National Anthem performed by the students from Iloilo Science and Technology University. The event was led by Dr. Casiano H. Choresca Jr., Center Chief and Scientist I at the Department of Agriculture-Fisheries Biotechnology Center (DA-FBC). Opening message was delivered via an audio visual presentation (AVP) by Dr. Lilian C. Garcia, CESO V, Executive Director at the Department of Agriculture-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI). Present during the ceremony were Keynote speaker, Hon. Drusila Esther E. Bayate, CESO IV, Undersecretary for Fisheries – Department of Agriculture, Dir. Remia A. Aparri, Regional Director at the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources VI (DA-BFAR), Hon. Jeffrey Ganzon, Vice Mayor of Iloilo City, Dr. Ildefonso Toledo, Provincial Agriculturist of Iloilo and Mr. Neill Armand Padlan, Communications Officer at the Department of Agriculture – Biotechnology Program Office (DA-BPO).
Part of the opening ceremony was the ribbon-cutting of a booth exhibit, showcasing biotechnology innovations, followed by testimonials from Mr. Dan Rae Hugo and Mr. German Compendido, as well as the distribution of catfish and tilapia fingerlings. Plenary sessions were held in the afternoon, featuring resource speakers: Dr. Andrea Roxanne J. Anas, Balik Scientist and Faculty of Pharmacy at Meijo University, Dr. Mary Nia M. Santos, Senior Science Research Specialist at the Department of Agriculture-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI), and Dr. Rhoda Mae C. Simora, Associate Professor and Scientist I, at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV). The sessions were followed by open forum led by Dr. Francis S. Legario, Associate Professor at Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U).

The plenary session resumed in the morning of the Day 2 with presentations from Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols, and Dr. Casiano H. Choresca Jr. Each speaker provided valuable insights on key topics in fisheries biotechnology. The session concluded with an open forum, moderated by Mr. Ace Cabral, which fostered an interactive exchange of ideas and perspectives on the capabilities and impact of fisheries biotechnology laboratory facilities.

In the afternoon, the symposium featured an engaging biotechnology quiz bee, with 15 student pairs from various universities, state universities, and colleges across the country competing. This lively contest highlighted the students’ knowledge and enthusiasm for the field of biotechnology.

Out of 15 outstanding university competitors, the following institutions were declared as the top winners:

1st Place – West Visayas State University
2nd Place – University of the Philippines Visayas
3rd Place – University of St. La Salle
